Honduras: Protecting Forests Against Logging

In Honduras, Central America, forests are destroyed at an alarming rate due to uncontrolled logging. The dry corridor region of Honduras is also highly vulnerable to extreme weather conditions. These forests are threatened in more ways than one and it takes an extreme effort to protect from and counteract the threats that are prevalent.

The work we support in partnership with La Tigra National Park is focused on reforesting these degraded sites with their native tree species. These tree species will become homes for the vast array of native species who call the forests home, along with restoring the site’s very important watershed, and of course the extreme and unique biodiversity of the forests and their land.

Through singling and bare root transfer planting methods, reforestation is achieved on a huge scale through the projects we support in Honduras, meaning local communities regain their ability to live sustainably off the land, that economic opportunities are brought to communities impacted by deforestation, and the amazing biodiversity contained within these forests are protected.

This project is:

  • Restoring and reforesting degraded land on a huge scale

  • Protecting an array of native species

  • Preserving precious ecosystems

  • Protecting against the effects of extreme weather conditions
